Selah, a little girl born into an oppressive cult known as the Flock, is the protagonist of this intriguing and terrifying narrative. The Flock, which consists entirely of women and female offspring, lives in a rural compound and is commanded by a single man who goes by the moniker Shepherd. Selah, a pre-adolescent daughter, is given the immense privilege of taking part in the sacred ceremony of the delivery of the lambs, on which they rely for survival, and she experiences a frightening and otherworldly experience. She begins to have unusual visions that cause her to doubt her own reality as well as all the Shepherd has taught her and her sisters.
