Everybody else in the city thinks that Sheriff Calder is a puppet of rich oil-man Val Rogers. When it is learned that baddie Bubber Reeves has escaped prison, Rogers' son can be involved because he is having an affair together with Reeves' wife. It appears many others in the city believe they may have reasons to panic Reeves. Calder's objective is to bring Reeves unharmed. Calder might need to oppose the Rogers using one hand along with mob violence on the flip, in their own pursuit for justice.
