A typical Midwestern 18-year-old student at a large state institution ready to immerse himself in college life realizes that education is not the beer-fueled, sexual ideal of his mind. Desperate to obtain the girl of his dreams (a beautiful but reticent sorority girl), he chooses to establish a gay identity in order to infiltrate her life. This casual masquerade, however, gradually draws him into a web of campus activism, gender warfare, fraternity hazes, sorority torture, "coming out" narratives, political martyrs, and, finally, a university-wide meltdown.
