A rising young lawyer successfully defends a guy charged with murder, only for the same type of murder to occur again. Immediately, the previously defended man employs the attorney again, and despite the attorney's certainty that he is the killer, he agrees to defend him once more... much to his friends' disgust. However, he says that by acting as his attorney, he will be better able to catch the man making a mistake... and this is how the rest of the film unfolds, with the killer and the attorney engaging in a cat and mouse game until they both come to see that they are not that dissimilar.
