21 Jump Street
21 Jump Street was an American police procedural crime drama television series that ran from April12,1987, to April27,1991, with a total of 103 episodes on the Fox Network and in first-run syndication. The show follows a group of undercover cops that investigate crimes in high schools, colleges, and other places where teenagers congregate. It was originally supposed to be called Jump Street Chapel, after the deconsecrated church building where the unit's offices are located, but Fox requested that the name be altered so that viewers wouldn't assume it was a religious show. The series was developed by Patrick Hasburgh and Stephen J. Cannell and produced by Patrick Hasburgh Productions and Stephen J. Cannell Productions in collaboration with 20th Century Fox Television. Hasburgh, Cannell, Steve Beers, and Bill Nuss served as Executive Producers. The show, which was developed to appeal to a younger audience, was an early hit for the Fox Network. The last season was primarily broadcast on local Fox stations in first-run syndication. From 1996 to1998, it was broadcast on the FX cable network. Johnny Depp's nascent acting career was sparked by the series, which helped him gain national acclaim as a teen idol. Depp was irritated by his celebrity, but he was paid $45,000 per episode to continue working on the show under his contract. After the fourth season, he was eventually let go from his contract. For the character of Dennis Booker, a spin-off series, Booker, was created and lasted for one season from September 1989 to June 1990. On March16,2012, a film based on the book was released, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. - Less
